Translation of Medicinal Plants into Spanish
A major difficulty a translator encounters when translating herbs and plants (with medicinal value)
from English into Spanish is the diversity of names they are known by in each country, or even the region
within a country. Initially the translator must decide what is the plant’s Latin name, or scientific name,
and determine its widely known common name. Sometimes the translator must translate more than one common name,
but the safest route is to keep the plant in its scientific name, particularly when the
Spanish translation of the medicinal plants is to be on packaging, labeling, or disclosure of content.
